NYC Girl Scout Troop 6000 has been making their rounds in the news these past weeks for their positive effect on the homeless epidemic in New York City. Many are commenting on the great thing they are doing, it's benefiting the community, helping clean up New York City, and showing people the lovely camaraderie that the youth can have. For their dedication to New York, Mayor Zohran Mamdani gave the troop a key to the city. This was truly a special moment for the girls.
More importantly than any of that, is the fact that this has been the most profitable quarter that any girl scout troop has ever had, and investors are interested. For this significant profit jump, former mayor Eric Adams gave the troop a key to the city of Tiranë, Albania. In response to this, one girl, Melinda, said “what’s Albania?”
Former Mayor Adams isn’t the only one to give the girls praise for their sales skills, many business schools across the country have begun courting these girls to join their MBA graduate programs. Thus far Wharton, Booth, and Harvard have all offered full rides to their MBA programs but the girls have rejected all of these programs in favour of NYU’s offer.
NYU’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business has offered mentorship programs for the girls to participate in, and even offered a full ride to one student, Melinda Mills Jr! The school claims that this choice was decided by a random raffle.
The summer mentorship program includes many college-level classes for the girls who are almost all currently in 5th grade. The scouts are adapting well due to the help of their college classmates who are also participating in the program as it is available for current undergraduate students at NYU as well. Stern reported that the girls are all currently top of the class, doing better academically than many undergraduate Stern students.
When asked about this, scout Lindsay Pepperidge said “the homework is really easy because it’s pretty similar to middle school!” Professor David Taylor, former CEO of Tide, noted that after a few weeks, the girls were running his class and that they understood more about business than he ever has. Tide’s most profitable quarter produced 170 million in gross revenue, in comparison scout’s revenue in the first fiscal quarter for 2026 was 50.8 billion.
The program is currently in its final weeks, and many are asking what the plan for these girls is afterwards. It looks like the girls won’t have to worry as President Donald Trump, whose son Barron attends the Stern Mentorship Program, has taken a keen interest in them.
President Trump is very excited in the troop’s business acumen, expressing interest in helping them grow their futures in business, citing his time at Wharton and his many businesses for giving him many connections in the industry. “I would very much like to meet them, I think. Now I’ve thought this for some time, I've thought it a lot, more than anyone I know I've thought it, that these girls really have something special. I’ve learned a lot in my history as a businessman, they need to figure out how they’ll manage their finances. I used to know a New York financier who would’ve loved to work with them.”
Trump soon after firing Howard Lutnick for being “too girly,” even appointed star student Melinda as his new Secretary of Commerce. When asked what she thought about the war in Iran’s effect on the global economy she said “I’m 7.”
